As a photographer, I prefer capturing photographs of who you really are. I want the natural personality of those I photograph to show through, not your typical posed, or forced, smiles.
You should feel comfortable and express to me who you are. A higher comfort level produces a better photograph. If I am photographing children, I may take a few minutes in the beginning getting to know your child(ren). I want to let them feel comfortable with me without the camera before I begin shooting. Because I want you to show me your "true colors" a typical session may last anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours. Breaks are often needed to relax, feed a child (baby), for a clothing change etc.
I prefer to shoot sessions in the natural light of the outdoors. I find the perfect location for a shoot is often in ones own backyard, or a nearby shaded park. Heading downtown to the lakefront is always a nice place to capture fun and candid moments of exploration. Since the weather in the Midwest is not ideal for outdoor shoots in every season, having a portrait taken in the home is an option.
"What do we wear to a photo session" is a question I am often asked. My recommendation is that you keep it simple and classic. Often times busy patterns are distracting and take away from your photo. While light and neutral colors such as denims, khakis, and whites photograph well, color can also stand out in a photograph and really make it pop. If there is be more than one person photographed together, I suggest coordinating the outfits. They do not have to match, but look nice if they are along the same line. Bare feet are always fun in a photograph as well , especially with children. Feel free to allow children to bring along that special possession...a stuffed animal, blanket, or hat. These treasures are often fun to incorporate into their photos and tell a story about that moment in time.
If there is a need to cancel a session, please notify me within 24 hours of your appointment, if possible. Cancellation fees may apply under certain circumstances. As a mother myself, I know that we can't always control mother nature so the soonest you can contact me is appreciated.
I look forward to capturing some special memories for your family.
